Umbert returns quickly to Paris for September, after having participated in the opening of the 44th Festival of the American Cinema of Deauville.
Umbert loves this time of the year when Paris comes back to life after the long break of the summer.
He likes to listen to his friends who tell him about their many trips and long weekends during the vacations.
This month, you’ll discover How to spend the best September weekend ever in Paris.
“Paris, come to invite me in your arms, I would like to dance my Paris of September”, from “Paris in the month of September” Jean-Claude Pascal, singer
1) Day 1
Umbert likes to stay at the Hotel Le Bristol in Paris. This palace offers the best service, Savoir-Vivre, and Parisian elegance. The hotel is a reference to the French art-de-vivre. From the entrance until your room, the personalized and smiling welcome is always a pleasure.
Etiquette: When arriving at the hotel until 6 pm says « Bonjour Madame or Monsieur,” and after 6 pm “Bonsoir Madame or Monsieur,» in French, it is not painful.
- Brunch 14:00-15:00
The Beverly Hills Hotel Los Angeles in Paris? Yes, it is possible this summer! The Plaza Athénée, in association with the Californian palace, has installed a superb ephemeral terrace in the heart of Paris. Green, white, pink, color, cheerfulness! Umbert and his friends enjoy imaginative dishes from the Beverly Hills Hotel, in a chic and casual atmosphere.
Etiquette: It is essential to wait until the hostess places you. However, you can politely ask to change if the table proposed does not suit you.
- Shopping 15:00-17:00
éclectic: Winter is coming, so Umbert will choose a coat and a jacket in this specialized shop, which proposes timeless clothes, mixing the traditional know-how and the high-tech materials for absolute comfort. éclectic, 17 rue Marbeuf 75008 Paris
Balibaris: A young and casual style for clothes that evokes the elegance of Steve Mc Queen. Umbert loves the knit ties they sell from the beginning of this brand. Balibaris, 11 rue Marbeuf 75008 Paris
Atelier Baudin: Custom glasses. Face shape, colors, materials; everything is studied by this craftsman who will make a unique model for you. Atelier Baudin, 38 rue de Penthièvre 75008 Paris
Etiquette: The proposed colors do not please you; it doesn’t matter. Making unpleasant reflections on the seller is useless. Ask another advice with a smile.
- Hairdresser 18:00 – 19:00
Umbert takes you to a surprising place! Hairdresser, barber, but also a cocktail bar hidden at the end at the back. Everything is of high quality in this unusual place for gentlemen.
Etiquette: Before asking for a dye for your white hair, if you have any, talk with your hairdresser. Grey hair is sexy and fashionable.
- Dinner & cocktail 20:00 until late …
Umbert enjoys dining with his friends on the rooftops of Paris. This is possible on the terraces of the Champs-Elysées theater, facing the illuminated Eiffel Tower, in this excellent restaurant. The “Terrasse George V” or the “Terrasse Montaigne” offer quality dishes. Every Saturday, a crazy DJ will make you dance at “Club Montaigne” until the end of the night.
Etiquette: The flutes or champagne glasses are held by the foot, not to warm it.
2) Day 2
- Coffee & Croissants 10:00 – 12:00
Why not taking advantage of the calm of the magnificent terrace of the Hotel Le Bristol to have breakfast? Umbert loves this chic place, with refined service. An exceptional breakfast made by one of the best chefs in Paris.
Etiquette: Before you start eating, check that your friends are already served. The rules of etiquette are valid also for breakfast.
- City tour 12:00-14:00
The flea market of Saint-Ouen, with its 15 markets are essential during the weekends of Paris in September.
To not get lost, Umbert shows you his favorite places the Biron Market: This market includes 220 antique dealers who offer art objects from the 18th century and furniture from Art Deco and the Far East.
Umbert likes lightings. Marché Biron, 85 rue des Rosiers 93400 Saint-Ouen.
Paul Bert Market: This is a place where all eras and styles mix. Umbert finds this market ideal for “shopping” as do collectors around the world. Marché Paul Bert et Serpette, 110 rue des Rosiers et 96 rue Paul Bert 93400 Saint-Ouen.
In the same street check “My discoveries” where you can find old stuff in perfect shape, especially advertisements.
Etiquette: Bargain is healthy at the “flea market,” but it must be done with elegance and respect. Staying courteous and calm is the most effective way to lower the price.
- Brunch 14:00 – 16:00
Umbert and his friends go to the Mob, or Maimonides Of Brooklyn, in the heart of Saint-Ouen, a new place of life that mixes organic cooking, cinema, literature, and travel. On the rooftop: a vegetable garden where the inhabitants of the district cultivate aromatics. The motto of the restaurant is to take care of yourself and your body. The new trendy place of Saint-Ouen!
Etiquette: The manager will be sensitive to your compliments regarding this new concept. Promise him to come back with your friends during your next stay in Paris.
- City tour 16:00-18:00
After this trendy lunch, Umbert takes us to the place he loves at the Saint Ouen flea market.
Serpette Market: The best known by the worldwide decorators. Umbert walks in the aisles to discover silver dinnerware, mirrors, Art Deco furniture, and unique jewelry. To make an incredible gift to Diane, he goes to the Olwen Forest boutique (aisle 3 booth 5-6-7) to pick a Joseff of Hollywood creation that imagines the jewelry from Greta Garbo’s films, Marlene Dietrich, or a necklace Coco Chanel. Sharon Stone and Ben Harper are also fans of this market.
Marché Serpette, 110 rue des Rosiers 93400 Saint-Ouen.
The shop”Chez Sarah” is perfect to make a gift to Diane. Umbert is going to choose a dress from the ’30s. Chez Sarah, 18 rue Jules Vallès 93400 Saint-Ouen.
Etiquette: Old objects are rare and often fragile. You have to handle them gently.
- Dinner 19:00 – 20:00
Umbert loves to dine in this restaurant with the decor of a theater, created by Jacques Garcia: red and gold colors, portraits of actors on the walls to enjoy traditional cuisine.
Etiquette: If you made a mistake while ordering a dish, ask the server quickly if you can still change. If this is no longer possible, accept your error with a smile.
- Show 20:00 – 23:00
Umbert and his friends feel “Totally Crazy” at the Crazy Horse, with a show that once again highlights the beauty of the woman, with breathtaking lights. A must-do for Parisian nights.
Etiquette: Do not comment on nudity during this show. It’s vulgar and completely has been.
- Cocktail 23:00
This is the hidden bar of the Marais district. You have to find on the right of the restaurant “Vins des Pyrenees” a narrow and dark staircase to discover a speakeasy with leather sofas, refined decoration, and a vegetal terrace. Umbert chooses “Zelda” or “Paris is a party,” original and delicious cocktails.
Etiquette: The cocktail menu is long, and the choice is difficult. You can ask the mixologist to choose for you. He will be flattered!
3) Day 3
- Brunch 11:00 – 13:00
A huge terrace in the heart of Paris, old columns, a superb mosaic floor for this restaurant that represents the Parisian Art-de-Vivre. Umbert still tastes the famous chocolate cake with coffee ice cream.
Etiquette: The chocolate cake can leave traces around the mouth. Remember to wipe your lips, especially before drinking so that you won’t stain the glass.
- Exhibition 13:00 – 16:00
The Impressionists in London: The war with Prussia in 1870 forced artists settled in France to take refuge in the United Kingdom. The exhibition presents the arts created along the Thames or in London. Testimonials bring visitors from Paris to London to live this unknown artistic exile.
Etiquette: If you know art well, do not make too long comments to respect the other visitors who won’t have your culture.
- High tea 16:00
Umbert often invites his friends to this authentic Parisian palace to have tea under crystal chandeliers, admiring the old tapestries. The “full tea” formula allows you to taste raspberry or lemon tartlets, and to choose organic teas or specially created teas for the Hotel Le Bristol.
Etiquette: Fruit pies can be enjoyed with the dessert spoon. If a pie is made with puff pastry, you can use a dessert knife to keep it from breaking.
Umbert hopes these tips will help you.
It is always difficult to leave Paris. So many memories, gifts, and photos to share with your friends when you return. Umbert is already preparing the month of October, and many surprises await you.
Do not be sad and come back soon to see us! On 09/30/2018, if you are still in Paris, do not miss the grand parade of the most beautiful cars in that will parade at the Tuileries, on the Place de la Concorde, in front of the Grand Palais and the Champs Elysees.
What must be remembered: the French are very attached to the respect of their etiquette and their culture. It is essential to inform you, to facilitate your trip and live incredible moments with the locals.
